Pedro Pitarch Ramon

Pedro Pitarch Ramón is chair of American Anthropology at the Complutense University of Madrid (American History Department II). A graduate in American History (1984) from the Complutense University and doctor in anthropology from the State University of New York (1993). Since 1988, he has worked with Mayan populations in the region of the Chiapas Heights, Mexico, where he is especially interested in questions of cosmology and indigenous ontology, as well as shamanism, medicine, and ritual texts. He is the author of: Ch’ulel, una etnografía de las almas tzeltales (FCE, 1996), The Jaguar and the Priest (Univ. of Texas Press, 2010), La palabra fragante: cantos chamánicos tzeltales (2013, Artes de México) and La cara oculta del pliegue (2013, Artes de México).
